Life at the TIS Austin Studio

The Austin Studio of Total Immersion Software (TIS) was founded early in 2007 on the strength of a demo produced for DARPA, the clandestine research agency for the Department of Defense. While other companies are working safely within the realms of fantasy, we are working deeply within the cutting edge, real world experiences that have inspired games like Splinter Cell and Call of Duty.

Our studio is a mixed composition of experience and change where industry veterans, many of whom have come from the original game companies that spawned the industry here in Austin, mentor and work shoulder-to-shoulder with high-caliber, fresh talent. We’re a different kind of animal than many of the companies you will find in Austin. Since we have so many members who have come from the games industry, we have a large interest in maintaining our employees’ quality of life. This is not an empty promise here. Many of us have been through a rough game development cycle and aim to work in an environment that does not repeat those mistakes.

We are structured to capture the best aspects of a game developer. But we also are lucky in that we are not as susceptible to the crushing deadlines that you’ll find in the majority of companies that are involved in publisher/developer relationships. In this we capture some of the greater stability that you find in some of the more traditional software companies. New Location

We just relocated into a state of the art, 12,000 square foot facility. Located in the high end, Arboretum area in northwest Austin, the space triples the size of its former office space and has been constructed to rival many of the top facilities that house other software development studios in this high-tech-Mecca of the city. A strong architectural design focus has been placed on creating a fully ergonomic and idealized work environment for our employees because we share the belief that you can treat developers well and still be profitable. After all, happy developers make better software.
