Ground Synthetic Environment (GSE)
Train and Rehearse in an Immersive Environment
Day or night, inside or out, single or multi-user…the RealWorld Ground Synthetic Environment™ (GSE)™ will take you there. Train over vast mission areas and experience rich one-on-one or one-on-many interactions with human teammates and artificial intelligence AI-controlled characters, in any configuration. AIentities display realistic behaviors via an all-new goal-oriented behavior system, and smooth, natural movements using TotalPath™, RealWorld’s run-time navigation mesh system.
In version 1.0, the GSE incorporates an all new terrain system — TotalTerrain™ — to give you simulation environments limited in scope and detail only by your disk space. Also new in 1.0 is TotalScene™, our next-generation renderer, with cutting-edge features like High Dynamic Range Rendering (HDRR) for creating subtle lighting effects, ambient occlusion, Rayleigh-Mie scattering for environmental depth cueing, a full day/night ephemeris model for proper placement of celestial entities (including stars), and much more. With TotalScene, what you’d see is what you get.
GSE supports simulation at mission rehearsal levels of fidelity. The PRC-119 radio is so realistic; it simulates frequency hopping to avoid jamming and encryption to keep others from listening in. The ballistic physics model is highly accurate and is populated with data from manufacturer tables, so the virtual weapons work just like the real ones.

The GSE now supports high resolution characters with natural motions, detailed facial animations and even moving fingers. Decorated warfighters donned weighted vests to simulate their normal gear load out. Then we used the latest motion capture technology to record their movements. The data from those recordings now drive avatar movements in the GSE.
New technology lets avatars smoothly transition from a low-resolution silhouette on the horizon all the way up to a high-poly conversation partner. These and other enhancements take RealWorld far beyond the realm the first person shooter and make it ideally suited for training language skills, regional expertise and cultural awareness.
The RealWorld GSE makes realistic virtual training and mission rehearsal a reality.
