RealWorld Air Environment Sample Scenario

In this Close Air Support (CAS) mission rehearsal simulation, an A-10C pilot flying support for ground forces receives a call for air support from a Joint Terminal Air Controller (JTAC) on the ground. His/her goal is to find, target and eliminate an immediate threat to ground troops.

- Through either radio or data-link contact with ground troops (RealWorld Ground Combat Environment), pilot receives threat description and location
- Pilot makes sensor & visual confirmation of target
- Pilot uses targeting pod to designate target
- Pilot uses air-to-ground munitions to eliminate target
- Pilot makes visual confirmation of threat elimination
- Pilot also receives radio or data-link confirmation from JTAC
- Mission Review
- Pilot views 3D After Action Review (AAR) to critique performance and identify lessons-learned.
The A-10C is a single seat aircraft; there are no two-seat trainers. Therefore, when the pilot sits in the cockpit ready for their first actual takeoff, they've already trained using the RealWorld A-10C Desktop Training Simulation (DTS). The A-10C DTS also integrates with other RealWorld components to provide joint air, ground and electronic warfare training and rehearsals.
