RealWorld Electronic Warfare Sample Scenario

RealWorld Electronic warfare screenshotsRealWorld Electronic Warfare Enviroment
USAF undergraduate electronic warfare students at the 563rd Flying Training Squadron (FTS) are on board a T-43 aircraft for a cross-country training mission. While in flight, they use carry-on laptops running the RealWorld Air Combat Environment (RW ACE) for combined live and constructive rangeless training. Their goals are to train and master the following skill sets:

RealWorld Electronic Warfare Environment

  1. Signal recognition/identification
  2. Direction finding (DFing)
  3. Threat reaction

En route, the students run a simulation in which:

  • They take off from Randolph AFB headed to Maguire AFB in New Jersey.
  • On-board instructors have placed (virtual) threats (e.g. radar-guided anti-aircraft artillery (AAA), tactical and/or strategic surface to air missiles (SAMs), acquisition and early warning radar) along students' routes.
  • In this case, it's an 8-hour round-trip training mission. The students do one leg per day.
  • Routes are imported from Portable Flight Planning System (PFPS). While in flight, student's practice the skills listed in the "Goals" paragraph.
  • Students can also practice hitting a bomb release point (being at the right location at the right time and have the right aspect, not too much bank/pitch) and the proper TOT ( Time On Target) window.

Students can also train navigation skill sets by dropping virtual bombs at planned targets.
