RealWorld First Responder Sample Scenario
Fire, police and hazmat teams want to prepare for a chemical attack in a densely populated urban area. Their team leaders set up a scenario in RealWorld for a simulated gaseous chemical agent release.

- The teams use RealWorld to determine the simulated state of the chemical cloud and its estimated effect on participants at given times.
- In an accurate virtual representation of the actual location, the avatars traverse the affected area and manage the situation.
- Some participants are protected by Mission Oriented Protected Posture (MOPP) gear and some are unprotected.
- A virtual chemical sensor displays/alarms exposure. Human exposure is calculated and unprotected avatars have their performance degraded based on their calculated exposure e.g., slowed movement, impaired vision in a realistic manner.
- First aid, triage, evacuation, limited supplies, communications, and overrun medical facilities, and other scenarios can be practiced, modified and reviewed.
- Team logistics, situational awareness and thus safety and effectiveness are improved.
The time and costs for virtual training are much lower than for live exercises. In addition, virtual training allows for training in situations that are dangerous, difficult or impossible to create in "live" exercises. The flexibility to change the scenario easily and quickly allows many cases to be tried so the optimum approach can be determined.
Virtual training improves individual and team performance and allows for more training cycles in the same amount of time. Training can occur whenever the team member(s) have time — not just when they are formally scheduled.
